Constitution Center in Washington, DC represents the largest chilled beam installation in the United States, with more than 7,000 active chilled beams to be installed as interior spaces are completed. Building tenants will include the Housing Finance Agency, Securities and Exchange Commission and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.
Constitution Center’s $260 million renovation included the use of TROX active chilled beams as the primary terminal device in the HVAC system. According to SmithGroup, the buildings design firm, “chilled beams are the key component to the 22% energy cost savings as a result of the ability to provide required cooling capacity without running the 4,800 ton chiller plant most of the year.” The building’s sustainable design is expected to achieve a LEED™ Gold rating.
The integrated design of Constitution Center, owned by David Nassif Associates, is expected to minimize energy consumption, produce impressive cost savings for the owner and reduce the building’s carbon footprint while providing an exceptional work environment for the more than 5,000 expected occupants of the building.
