The creation and maintenance of a quiet and healthy learning environment is the greatest challenge facing designers of educational facilities today. Numerous studies identify equipment noise as a problem which inhibits the learning process in elementary and middle school environments. Many schools currently use HVAC technologies that result in classroom NC levels of 40 to 45, making it difficult for teachers to communicate above these resident noise levels and adding to the increases in throat and respiratory ailments among educators.

The current ANSI Standard S12.60-2002 calls for a maximum (1-hour average) A-weighted background noise level of 35dB — which equates to an NC level of about 27.

ASHRAE standard 62.1-2004 Ventilation for Acceptable Air Quality mandates that classrooms be supplied a minimum airflow of 15 CFM per person during all occupied periods. Many schools do not adhere to minimum ventilation requirements due to costs, where others that do comply introduce noisy equipment in an effort to get direct access to outside air.

TROX QLCI terminals are designed to provide air quality and acoustical performance similar to that of conventional displacement systems, but are specifically designed for operation in North American climates.

Benefits

  • Displacement ventilation enhances the removal of space respiratory contaminants
  • Low noise levels of the terminals conform to ANSI Standard S12.60
  • Terminals are designed to allow the supply of 100% outside air (or near) the minimum ventilation rate for the classroom.
  • Ideal solution for humid climates
  • Integral hydronic heat transfer coil reconditions room air, minimizing the supply air requirements of the central air handler
  • Cabinets available in a variety of colors
  • Other cabinet designs available
  • Basic units can also be furnished to allow cabinetry fitted by others
  • Five models allow coordination into most classrooms
  • Easy installation and connection
  • Ideal for retrofits due to small overhead space requirements
